Orientation in the Nancy Region We travel by train from Charles de Gualle to our chateau in Nancy. For three days it is perfect for orientation, sightseeing, and visits to nearby project sites.
The French Alps: Service and Adventure Nestled in the Alps, Bourg d'Oisans is our base for eight days. Our
hostel, Val de la Meije, and friends, Annette and Guy, warmly greet us and immediately make us feel welcome and at home. We will spend our days on a fantastic set of adventure activities as well as
helping the National Park Service repair alpine trails in Parc National des Ecrin. The highlight of our adventure activities, beyond beautiful
hikes and sheer wall rockclimbing, is canyoning; this is like "slithering down a rushing
mountain stream in a wet suit like a salamander." Professional guides and outfitters help guarantee our safety.
Carcassonne: 12-day Homestay Location Via the TGV (high speed train), we depart for our homestay city of
Carcassonne, near the Mediterranean. In this beautiful, walled Medieval city, we'll meet and stay with our gracious host families for 12 days; a great opportunity to test your language skills, make
friends, and absorb cultural differences found in day-to-day living and conversation. Some days are "family days," like Bastille Day,
and others are "project days" when we get together as a group to help archaeologists excavate Latours, an 11th Century village. We'll take side trips to the beach, through the fortress
Carcassonne, and to the Pyrennes mountains on the Spanish border.
Paris: "The City of Lights" Paris is a must on any visit to France. After arriving on the TGV, we spend four days exploring this city full of romance and history. There
is so much to see: La Tour Eiffel, Notre Dame, Le Sacre-Coeur, Montmatre, Le Louvre, Musee de Picasso, and Quai d'Orsay...the list goes on and on! It is a great chance to practice more French and
shop for souvenirs.
